The History
The yard in Elkins was established by Bill Lefkowitz in 1957 and was originally called Elkins Iron & Metal Co. In 1980, Bill’s son-in-law, Jim Gongola purchased the business and operated it until 2006. In 2006, Jim’s son, Andrew, purchased the assets of the business and re-named it Elkins Metal Recycling. Andrew also owns 3 Rivers Iron & Metal in Fairmont, WV.
In January 2009, Elkins Metal Recycling began offering certified asbestos abatement services and demolition services for commercial, municipal and individual clients. Elkins Metal Recycling is now your turn-key contractor for asset disposal services in central West Virginia.

The Mission
The most important ingredient to the success of Elkins Metal Recycling is the quality of people who work here. We value the persons who work here more than anything; more than the customers, more than the company’s assets, more than the results of our work.
We will create an atmosphere at work that enhances our health, family life, friendships and faith.
We will celebrate our creativity, cleverness and hard work.
We will be compassionate when one of us suffers pain, loss or failure.
We will feed each other, physically and emotionally.
We believe that caring for each other is the foundation for building an excellent company. By working together honestly and openly we will:
- Exceed our customers’ expectations of service, price and courtesy.
- Improve the physical environment of our community.
- Push ourselves to add value to material we handle.
- Grow this business by enriching our customers and re-investing the profits to gain efficiency.
